All About Waxing

WAXING FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Who can get waxed?

All genders are welcome for face, body, and intimate waxing (bikini, brazilian, full brazilian). However, very dense hair on the face (i.e. thick beard with many hairs within one follicle) may not be safe to wax due to hair density.

Do waxing services hurt?

Waxing can be uncomfortable, especially for a first time wax. Many of my first time clients have said that the waxing wasn’t as bad as they imagined it would be.

You will feel the pull when the wax is removed from the skin and hair that is coarser and more dense will feel more uncomfortable than areas with finer sparser hair. As you get waxed regularly (every 4 weeks), the hair tends to grow back finer and sparser, which is less uncomfortable than the removal of coarser, denser hair.

How long does hair need to be for waxing?

Hair must be at least 1/4″ long. Hair that is shorter will not be effectively removed with wax. Hair longer than 1/4″ can be trimmed right before your wax. I have trimmers in my suite to do this and ensure that the hair does not get trimmed too short.

Can I get waxed if I am taking medications?

There are some medication that affect the skin and the skin may be injured if you get waxed while on these medications:

  • Retinoids (differin, tretinoin, retin-A)
  • Topical/oral antibiotics and acne medications
    • If using topical products, discontinue use 1.5-2 weeks before your waxing appointment. Oral medications need to be finished at least 2 weeks before a waxing service.
    • Accutane will need up to 12 months before waxing services may be done.
  • Steroid medications
Can I get waxed while pregnant or on my period?

You can get waxed if you are on your period. You may use a tampon or a menstrual cup/disc. You may feel more sensitive while on your period and the week beforehand.

You may be waxed while you are pregnant, but always check with your doctor if you are unsure. You may feel more sensitive. You may be lying on your back or side and the bed can be adjusted so that you aren’t laying completely flat.

Will hair grow back more coarse or darker after a wax?

No. Hair, especially hair on the body, tends to grow back finer and sparser with regular waxing (booking every 4 weeks).
